Double post: Filon 2011 and Maggio 2009

image

image

Double header today because they are similar in some aspects. They are both substantial, medium body, and amazing value. Really enjoyed both and will buy again, maybe by the case.

Filon is a 100% Garnacha from Calatayud, Spain. It’s just really good, substantial, pleasant aromas all around.

Maggio is 100% Petite Sirah from Lodi, CA. Sustainable agriculture.

Both 7/10 due to good value.

Sassetto Sangiovese di Romagna

I like Italians. There haven’t been many bottles that I didn’t like. Rating: 6/10 very drinkable.

L’Isola dei Profumi Nero Davola Perricone 2010

Great weekday wine, unpretentious and solid, light but substantial. First Sicilian here, although I’ve had Sicilians before and liked it. So more to explore. Rating: Nice 6/10

Boxhead Shiraz 2010

Funky label. Australian. Suspicious. Boxhead starts a little rough on the tongue, a little thick, a little too alcoholic (just checked… 15%) but mellows out to shiraz’, well, drinkability.

Rating 6/10 ( let it breathe)

Chateau la Grange Clinet 2008

My choice for hurricane Sandy. Lighter than expected, still substantial enough. Should have let it breathe a bit more, but couldn’t wait… Rating : 6/10 not bad

Lurra Garnacha 2011

Alcohol taste at first ; better after some airing but unremarkable all around. Rating: Meh. 2/10

Angaro by Finca la Celia

50-50 Torrontés Chenin. Not a fan of Torrontés so the Chenin is a welcome blend. It’s young, and does its job. Rating : 5.5/10 (pretty drinkable)
